Snow Cover
• 67 cm • Some snow drift • Some loose snow (1-10cm)
Tests
• ECTN16@34cm(BRK) • Medium
• ECTN13@34cm(BRK) • Medium
• ECTP23@64cm(SP) • Poor • We did two ECT's in one pit, and one in a second pit 2 meters apart.
The snowpack is very variable in this steep southwest face. Multiple >1cm Ice layers (potentially from the warming events ~one week ago) surrounded by small facets were observed in the upper half of the snowpack.
Two of the ECT tests broke irregularily in multiple of these upper facet layers, but without propagation through the whole 90cm. They did however shear very easily on the bottom layer of depth hoar in non-standardised shovel shear observations.
The ECT two meters further did also break irregularily in the upper half, however also propagated cleanly in the depth hoar layer (23rd loading step).
